An event returns for a fourth year to Jefferson that spotlights the arts.
This year’s Art in the Garden is taking place next Saturday, September 16th at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County from 10am-4pm. Organizer Ginny Showman says about 13 artists will be on hand selling various works of art and people can interact with them and ask questions. She points out one change to the event that she believes helped to get more artists to join them this year.
“The fee has been waived for artists this year. So we are able to include a lot of emerging artists and young artists who may not think that they could make enough money to warrant the fee. So Tower View Team has decided to sponsor the artist this year, and that’s opened up some doors for some people. We’re really excited about that, that these young and emerging artists can have a chance to sell their wares.”
Showman notes there will also be a coloring contest for elementary kids, along with pastel sidewalk chalk coloring contests for older kids and adults, with prizes awarded. Additionally, there will be face painting, food trucks and two musical performances. Showman says from 11:30am-1pm will be Deep Roots from Des Moines that will play several genres of music, followed by the Churdan Town and Country Band from 3-4pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and everything is free that day.
