Elections are only a few months away for the nation.
Guthrie County Auditor Dani Fink says that the towns of Guthrie County will be voting on city council members and school board officials for the school district they live in. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about the city elections for Panora.
“The way that we figure signatures for cities is based on population, so 10 signatures for anyone interested in Panora city seats. Their mayor position is up this year. That seat was held by Pat Parker. Pat resigned, and at last week’s city council meeting, the council approved to appoint Curt Thornberry to the open mayor seat. So that position will be up.”
Fink mentions that the mayor position was already on the docket for this year’s elections, so it will be voted on in November. She adds that besides the mayor seat, two council member seats are up for the election, and two vacant seats are on the ballot as well, as Thornberry vacated his seat when he was appointed mayor, and Councilman Stan Landon resigned effective August 29th. Fink also shares about school board elections for the Panorama School District.
“So school board signatures are based off of prior election turnout. So for Panorama, they need 10 signatures for each of their districts. So, Panorama is a little different this year too. Panorama is the only district in Guthrie County that has director districts, and that the Director has to live within the district and can only be voted on by people in that district.”
Fink explains that due to redistricting after the 2020 census, director district one is up for a two year term, and then will return to a four year term in the next election, while director districts two, three and five are up for four year terms.
