As the Greene County Rams have their home opener for the football season tonight, the marching band will also unveil its first performance.
Director Wes Anderson says about 36 students are in the marching band and have been preparing for the first show since right before the school year started.
“And they’ve been just making huge strides. They are already nailing their music and it’s going to be a great show on Friday. This Friday is our first home football game and we only got four (home) football games this year and the kids are looking forward to performing.”
Anderson tells Raccoon Valley Radio the public will get to hear three songs from singer and performer, Taylor Swift and he talks about how the idea to do her songs came about.
“My wife, Snowy Anderson and I were driving through Kansas, actually around the same time that Taylor Swift was driving through Kansas, and we couldn’t stop anywhere without hearing everybody, everywhere was talking about the Taylor Swift show. And we were just talking and kind of decided, ‘This is kind of a big phenomenon going on right now in music’ and so we jumped on it. We ordered some Taylor Swift music and the kids love it.”
The three songs that fans will hear include “Shake It Off,” “You Belong With Me,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Anderson hopes that by the final home football game on October 6th, the students will not only play the songs, but march in a full field show as well.
