The Perry Bluejays picked up a huge first win of the year last Friday night on the gridiron as they defeated Des Moines Hoover 33-18 to start their season off on the right foot under new head coach Tyler Hovey. Perry finished with 270 yards including 187 yards on the ground last Friday night.  Slot Aiden Burgen had two big touchdowns and led the way with 72 yards while captain Keegan Synder added 45 yards on just 7 carries after suffering a lower body setback in the first quarter.  Kenney was 8-12 for 89 yards with Hoffbauer pulling in four targets for 40 yards.  Drake Levan added three receptions for 47 yards.  Kenney added 36 yards on the ground.  Kain Killmer led the defense with double digit tackles.

The focus for Perry now shifts to the Greene County Rams tomorrow night as they look to start 2-0 on the season in the battle for the cow bell against their bitter rival. The Rams are coming off a 20-0 loss last Friday night in Week 1 losing to the Carroll Tigers. Senior QB for Greene County Gabe Ebersole was 14 for 18 in that game and threw for 104 yards. On the other side of the ball, Carroll junior QB Carter Essick threw for 3 touchdowns and was 10/17 for 139 yards. Greene County defeated Perry a year ago 61-0. But these are both completely different teams and it’ll be an entirely different matchup this time around. Perry will look to build upon their win last Friday night, while Greene County will look to retain control of the cow bell for another season and get their first win in the win column for 2023.

It’ll be an exciting game. Shawn Kenney will have the call right here on KDLS. Kickoff will be at 7 PM in Jefferson at Linduska Field.
