Dallas Center-Grimes suffers a tough loss in week one of the high school football season Friday.

The Mustangs were inches away from coming away with a victory over Gilbert, but fell by a score of 14-12. The game was a defensive battle with Dallas Center-Grimes scoring first in the second quarter as senior quarterback Ty Mikkelsen found tight end Dayne Mauk for a 15 yard touchdown pass to go up 6-0 at halftime.

Gilbert bounced back in the third quarter with 14 unanswered points  with scores from  a pass play to Ean Eldred and a run from Will Hawthorne. Dallas Center-Grimes would respond early in the fourth quarter with a four minute drive spanning 55 yards in eight plays ending in a touchdown catch by senior Jaden Jones.

The Mustangs had the ball to win the game with a minute left in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Hudson Heidgerken catch a pass near the goal line, dove for the end zone and fumbled. Gilbert picked up the ball and took a knee and won.

Dallas Center-Grimes football will be back on the gridiron for their opening home game against the Newton Cardinals. The game will be broadcasted on our mobile stream KDLS-2.
