A Guthrie County couple was recently inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at this year’s Iowa State Fair.

According to a press release from the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame, Jeff and Natalie Derry were recognized for their countless contributions and hours of volunteer service in the Guthrie County 4-H program. Natalie started helping with the Clover Kids Club, and when the couple’s two boys were 4-H members, they started the Guthrie County SESS Range Finders Club, the first Safety and Education in Shooting Sports program in the county. Natalie serves as the Organizational Leader, while Jeff is a trained instructor for the shotgun, air rifle, small bore rifle, muzzleloader and archery disciplines.

Jeff works with youth on shooting ranges that he has on the family’s property, and can usually be found outside helping children polish their skills and supporting the State Shoot or helping teach members for the 4-H Shooting Sports National Competition. He also stepped into the position of Goat Superintendent, and helped move the goat pens to their new location when new construction projects were being executed on the fairgrounds. Natalie has helped 4-Hers decide on static exhibit projects, silent auctions, and is active on the Guthrie County Youth Committee.

The induction ceremony was held the last day of the Iowa State Fair this past Sunday.
