The recent heat wave may be subsiding, but damage from it could still be present.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf reminds residents that while many are worried about the harm the extreme heat can cause to people and animals, it can also cause damage to infrastructure. Kempf tells Raccoon Valley Radio about how high heat can impact transportation issues..

“I mean, we can have problems in transportation with the buckling pavement. Railroad tracks, we have the Iowa State Railroad in the southern part of Guthrie (County), northern part of Adair (County), but even railroad tracks suffer issues.”

Kempf adds that the heat can affect agriculture, causing heat stress to plants and animals, and at times causing equipment to face difficulties as well.
