The Dallas County Health Department is promoting recycling in rural areas with accessible sites.
Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran says the environmental health team at Dallas County Health Department manages the rural recycling program created to make recycling accessible for Dallas County residents that reside outside of city limits. Cochran says that it has sites in Linden, Perry, Redfield and Washington Township.
“A really good thing to keep in mind is that these big bins are what they call a single stream and what that means is that you can put everything that’s recyclable all together in the same bin. You don’t have to sort it out. They take glass, they take paper, they take like milk jugs, all those sorts of things. You don’t have to sort it out.”
Cochran says when items that are not appropriate for recycling are included, like food waste or hazardous materials, it contaminates the bin and costs the county taxpayers extra fees to remove the contamination. For more information visit the link here.
