Jefferson residents are reminded about an increase in yard waste fees coming soon.

The Jefferson City Council approved at its most recent meeting the third and final reading to amend an ordinance to increase the yard waste collection fees from $1 to $3 and yard waste stickers from $1 to $2. City Administrator Scott Peterson says the change is to offset the increased expense of having a contractor mulch more trees that are being brought to the yard waste site at Daubendiek Park, due mostly to the Emerald Ash Borer. Peterson notes the new fees take effect on August 31st.

The week of August 28th through the 30th is the next opportunity that Jefferson residents have for city crews to pick up their yard waste on their regular garbage day, so Peterson encourages residents to get their stickers with the lower price now.

“They can actually purchase stickers then (at $1) up until the 31st (of August) and the price would change at that time. So yeah, if you needed to purchase several stickers, now is the time to do it.”

Peterson adds while the new fees take effect on August 31st, residents will see the yard waste collection fees on their utility bills at the end of next month.
