The Perry boys and girls cross country teams are set to start their seasons this upcoming week at the Southeast Valley Cross Country Invite at Gowrie Municipal Golf Course. The boys will race first at 5 PM, followed by the girls at 5:40. Both teams are coming off stellar seasons a year ago. The Bluejays finished 8th in the same Southeast Valley Cross Country Invite a year ago, while the Jayettes finished 8th as well. After that the Bluejays finished in 3rd, 5th, 6th in their next 3 cross country races. The 3rd place finish came in the Madrid Invite, behind Ogden and Madrid. The Bluejays finished 5th in the North Co-ed Cross Country Meet at Ewing Park. They then followed that up with a 6th place finish in the ADM Cross Country Invitational at Hillcrest Country Club.
On the girls side of things after their 8th place finish at Gowrie, the Jayettes went to Madrid and placed 8th in that race as well a year ago. They then followed that up with a 5th place finish at Ewing Park, and 8th place finish in the ADM invitational.
Tina Lutterman and Megan Maylum are the gals in charge of each cross country team for the 2023-2024 season. For Tina Lutterman, this is her first season as the boys XC coach. She is replacing Shaylena Bell from a season ago. Megan Maylum will be returning for the girls this season as she was the coach last year as well. Both Perry girls and boys XC teams were at the Fall Kickoff Event at Perry High School yesterday. I will have more coverage of the cross country teams as they kick off their seasons this week on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
