With the season right around the corner for the Perry Bluejays, Bluejays head coach Tyler Hovey talked about how he feels his team is prepared going into the 2023 season. Perry looks to turn around the program after a disappointing 2022 campaign in the Heart of Iowa conference. Hovey said his confidence in a turnaround season dates back to the summer.

“Over the summer, we had a couple of 7 on 7s. We also had practices on Sunday nights where we can have guys come in and work on a couple of things and start to get ahead of the learning curve a little bit. I think that has played into how well our camp went and I spoke to our older guys, catching on really fast. We had really good attendance from our core group of older guys that have really bought in. They kind of start the snowball, and I feel like our snowball is getting bigger and bigger and more guys are buying in as the season is kind of progressing here,” Hovey said.

Perry has their opening scrimmage this upcoming weekend on Friday against Woodward-Granger and they open their season next Friday night against Des Moines Hoover. Kickoff of that game is at 7:30 at Dewey Field.
