The Dallas County Courthouse is near completion after two years of work on the building.

Dallas County Board Supervisor Mark Hanson says that they approved a complete exterior rehabilitation project on the government facility. He adds that last year they worked on everything outside from the ground to the gutter system, and this year they worked on everything on the top of the tower. Hanson says that the work has included cleaning, tuck pointing, roof and window repairs. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they ran into some unexpected changes to the rehabilitation.

Sometimes when you get into projects like this, you discover things that you weren’t always aware of. And a couple of things. There were some stones that had slipped and slid so remounting those and all of the balustrades have to be remounted.”

Hanson mentions that the building has been around since the early 1900’s, and with different types of circumstances the building needed to be rehabilitated.

“With time and weather, wear and tear, it just needs to be worked on, and replaced and looked at. It should be in pretty good shape by the end of the project.”

Hanson says the project will be completed sometime in November, and the projected cost is going to come in close to the $2.8 million mark.
