Today signifies the end of the 2013-14 school year for Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene School districts.
Ever since the reorganization vote passed last February, there have been at times four school board meetings per month for Superintendent Tim Christensen. He has been going to Jefferson-Scranton School Board work sessions and regular meetings and East Greene and Greene County School Board meetings.
On July 1st, the Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene districts will combine into one district which will be called Greene County Community School District.
Christensen talks about his feelings about going into the 2014-15 school year as one unified district.
“A little bit melancholy in terms of Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene School districts going away. But at the same time, (I’m) extremely excited about Greene County just being able to focus on one school district. I see us still continuing to have a work session, so still probably two school board meetings a month but right now its four board meetings a month so it cuts it in half so I’m looking forward to that.”
Some of the minor obstacles have been deciding what items to put on which school board agenda so that the right board makes the correct decisions going forward and making sure that the both current districts transfer everything over smoothly into the new district come this July.
Christensen comments that all those are being handled well and he’s been very appreciative of the work of all the school board members, staff and teachers of all the districts to make this transitional year a successful one.
