David Wright has completed his first year as Greene County Activities Director and year two is beginning. Wright summarized his first year in his current position with Raccoon Valley Radio. He pointed to a football district championship, State cross-country qualifier Noah Hinote, a winning volleyball season, two State wrestling champions in Cale Petersen and McKinley Robbins, improvement in girls and boys basketball, plus girls’ soccer, a State qualifying boys’ soccer team with first team All-State player Gesser Gutierres and second team selection Jose Velazco, a golf district qualifier in Nathan Behne, a girls’ golf team with enough players to compete as a team, numerous track & field State qualifiers, State place winning girls’ 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 meter relays, in addition to girls’ 400 meter place winner Natalie Heupel and boys’ shot put place winner Jesse Miller. The summer saw an improving baseball team as the season went on, and a softball team that went 22-7 for the most wins in a season since 2008. Pitcher Emma Hoyle earned first team All-State honors and centerfielder Olivia Shannon was on the second team. Also, the school’s e-sports team won a State title this Spring.
