Dallas Center-Grimes baseball season came to a close in mid July, but they had one player who was an unsung hero in his first year on varsity.

Junior Logan Young was named on the Little Hawkeye All-Conference First Team as an outfielder. Young hit in the nine spot all season and thrived. He had 96 at bats, and hit for average of .354 with an On Base Percentage of .470. Young also rarely made a mistake in left field for the Mustangs.

DCG Head Baseball Coach Curt Castenson said Young was the biggest surprise on the team because last year he mainly played sophomore ball, and just register one at bat on varsity coming into the year.

“His off season work really stood up. And I just noticed in Spring League and then kind of early in the year that he was just putting the ball in play a lot. And so I just thought, you know, he would be a really good guy to roll our top of the order. He did exactly that. I mean, he’s not a power number guy, but he’s the guy that you want in that nine hole spot.”

Young finished the second best batting on the team which was right behind the Kirkwood Community College commit Clayton Campidilli. The Mustangs finished the 2023 year with 30 wins, a conference championship and state qualifiers.
