The Dallas County Health Department is encouraging people to increase their water intake with the extremely hot temperatures this week.

Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran says that with the temperatures in the high 90 degrees this week will cause people to sweat more. Cochran notes that drinking water helps replenish the fluids lost in the body from excessive sweating. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it’s recommended to drink double the amount of water in this heat.

So if you are usually somebody who totes around a water bottle and you drink the whole thing every day, now drink all of that and drink more. And if you’re somebody who doesn’t ever take a drink of water, start doing that.”

Cochran mentions that drinks that contain caffeine, sugar and alcohol will promote dehydration. She says the best drink is water.
