People living in Dallas County can take refuge during the rising temperatures at the many cooling centers that have been established.

Dallas County Emergency Management Director AJ Seely says that there are a total of eight cooling centers in the county along with five in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area. He says those include the public libraries of the cities of Adel, Perry, DeSoto, Dallas Center and Minburn. Seely says that cooling centers are usually public facilities that give people a chance to get away from the hot temperatures.

Cooling centers are a great way for those that may have difficulty maintaining their house temperature or just getting into an environment that’s going to be comfortable for any long period of time. So cooling centers are public facilities generally that just allow people to go and get a little break.”

Seely adds that people who want to utilize these cooling should check their normal business hours by calling the facility. He notes that these libraries do not serve food or water.
