There are a couple of youth programs starting soon in Jefferson.

The Summer Cheer, Stunt and Tumbling Camp is for kindergarteners through fourth graders and it will be held next Monday through Thursday from 4-5pm at the Greene County Community Center. Participants will learn beginner level cheerleading stunts, tumbling and jumps and will teach about the basic skills, technique and terminology, while practicing being safe to perform those movements. The camp will be led by the Greene County High School Varsity Head Cheerleader Coach Shannon Black and some of the cheerleaders. The cost to participate is $30 for community center members and $35 for non-members. Registration deadline is today.

Another program is geared toward kids who are going to be kindergarteners this upcoming school year with a “Safety Camp.” This is a four-day program that covers several areas of safety concerns for youth before entering the school year. Topics that are covered include bus, bicycle, pool, car, electrical, and drugs and alcohol safety, among others. This camp will be from August 8th-11th from 9-11am at the community center. It is free due to the ongoing sponsorship of the Jefferson Elks Lodge. Registration is limited to the first 20 participants. Contact the community center at 515-386-2134 or stop by to sign up.
