The Dallas County Fair was a resounding success with a growth in 4H and FFA exhibits, and that will carry on to the Iowa State Fair in August.

The Dallas County Fair had over 385 static exhibits on display, along with over 700 animals shown during the fair. Dallas County ISU Extension and Outreach Youth Services Coordinator Anne Schlieman says that their numbers grew this year across the static and animals shown. Schlieman tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they had to borrow cages from other people to hold the amount of poultry shown at the fair. She talks about how growth is beneficial.

It’s absolutely wonderful and very exciting to see the numbers going up. That means more kids are getting involved in 4 H, which we love to see. That just means more kids are getting involved in agriculture too.”

Schlieman adds that the participation will continue with 44 static, 210 livestock exhibits and 11 communications, working and share the fun exhibits that will be shown at the state fair. She mentions how proud they are of the representation that will be in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fair.

“These kids, FFA and 4 H have put so much work into their livestock, into their static exhibits, the communications, the working exhibits. It’s really fun to see them take pride in their hard work and continue on to the state fair.”

The Iowa State Fair is from August 10th to the 20th held at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
