A fundraiser to help the Casey Volunteer Fire Department pay for their new pumper truck has been extended.

Fire Chief Travis Corder says the department’s old pumper truck was damaged on a call, and after the estimate, repairs would cost more than what the truck was worth. He explains the decision was made to purchase a new freightliner pumper, and it should be available for use in September. A fundraiser was started to help cover the costs from purchasing the truck and some of the equipment it needed, with a goal to reach $350,000. With the initial installment and what has been raised, roughly a third of the cost has been covered.

The fundraiser was originally going to end at the end of July, but has been extended to the end of August to try and raise more funds. The Casey-Walnut-Thompson Fire Association is accepting cash and check donations, along with digital donations through the app Venmo. Some businesses in Casey have donated gift cards and items for a drawing to help incentivize donations. For each $5 individuals donate, they receive an entry into the drawing. Information to make donations can be found in this story online.
