For some Greene County 4-H and FFA’ers, their time to show livestock doesn’t end with the Greene County Fair.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says several youth qualified from the county fair, in certain livestock areas, to compete in this Saturday’s Heartland Throwdown that will be held on the Story County Fairgrounds.

“So it used to be formerly known as ‘The Beardown’ and it’s now ‘The Heartland Throwdown.’ So to advance it would be breeding and market in sheep, goat, swine and beef. So if you were the grand champion of any of those breeding or market species, you do advance and compete against eight other counties in that show. So it’s The Heartland Throwdown and then the best of the best will be at the All Iowa Showdown to compete for the overall title there.”

The 4-H and FFA’ers that qualified from the county fair include Stella Launter as the Champion Breeding Heifer, Elise Badger with Champion Market Beef, the Champion Market Lamb is Emmalin Wright, Tatum Tucker as the Champion Market Goat and Champion Breeding Doe, Lauren Oakes, who is the Champion Breeding Gilt, Paisley Lautner as Champion Market Swine, and Breanna Pope with Champion Breeding Ewe.

The Heartland Throwdown is at 1pm on Saturday at the Story County Fairgrounds. The winners advance to the All Iowa Showdown in Oskaloosa on August 6th.
