A food drive has been taking place in Guthrie Center during July for the Guthrie Center Food Pantry, but there are still items they need.
New Opportunities Outreach Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says that they’ve been receiving several foods that have longer shelf lives, like macaroni and cheese, canned goods and cereal. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio of some items that they need some more of.
“We could use pasta. We’re really short on pasta. That would be like spaghetti or any of that kind of stuff that we can pair with a pasta sauce to make a meal. Always can use tuna. Canned tuna, packets of tuna. Peanut butter. Jelly if you’re wanting to add to that.”
Huggins adds that canned fruits are another item that they could use some more of, but that they’ll take almost anything since the number of households needing help has increased over the summer. For those wanting to donate food and other items, drop off locations can be found at Peoples Bank, Guthrie County State Bank, Hometown Foods, Dollar General, the Mary J Barnett Memorial Library and local Guthrie Center Churches.
