The Greene County Development Corporation Board met Tuesday in regular session.

The meeting started with an update to the apartment conversion project with the former middle school in Jefferson. Developer Nate Adams said the federal and state historic tax credit officials determined that the attached gymnasium to the three-story building needs to stay for the structure to qualify for the tax credits. He noted that part one of the application to the State of Iowa Historical Preservation Office was approved in April for qualification and part two is the initial modification design of the apartments. 

Midwest Missions Iowa Coordinator Danille Curtis gave an update. She said their new location in Jefferson, the former Aureon building, held a grand opening on June 17th. They have had over 50 volunteers from Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota come to the facility. She pointed out over 1,000 rice packs have been made in about a month at the new facility and most will be shipped to Ukraine.    

Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield reported that on average there are about 20-22 people being seen at the same day clinic and as high as 31. He added cardiac rehabilitation to the second floor to the former long term care dining room and will have an open house in September.  

GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said they are waiting on a proposal from Happe Homes regarding the land by the medical center for a housing project. He mentioned the multi-cultural resource center is waiting on approval from a grant application for funding from the US Department of Agriculture. He added that a solar panel operation is interested in the Electrolux property and they will continue to have discussions about the possible transfer of that land. 

Highway 144 Corridor Housing Initiative Board Vice President John Rigler, III said there will be a second group of communities to emulate what the east side of Greene County has done with their housing grant projects. The communities that initially met included Scranton, Churdan, Glidden, Bayard, Coon Rapids and Ralston.
