A reminder that a main road through Jefferson will be temporarily closed for repairs.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio Fort Dodge Asphalt is planning to be in town Monday through Friday from 7am-7pm to resurface West Lincoln Way. City Administrator Scott Peterson talks about the project.

“The City has a contract with the asphalt provider that says we’re going to have an asphalt overlay from Grimmell (Road) to the highway (Elm Street) and it’s going to be done before RAGBRAI rolls to town. The entire project is that they come in and mill off about an inch of asphalt and then they come back and re-lay that asphalt back in there.”

Morlan notes that motorists will not be able to access West Lincoln Way, which means parking on the street is prohibited. Additionally, residents who live on that street will not be able to use their driveways or alleyways. Everyone is urged to park on the side streets. Barricades will also be in place at every intersection as the project continues. This is also the same route that the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will use on July 25th to go through Jefferson on their way to Rippey as the meeting town, before the next overnight stop in Ames.
