Elise Badger (middle left) is the 2023 Greene Co Fair Queen
The Greene County Fair has new royalty.
On Wednesday, Elise Badger was named the 2023 Greene County Fair Queen and she will compete at the Iowa State Fair in August. The fair continues with more entertainment on Friday. In the morning will be the sheep and little lambs show at 8am at the show ring, followed by the beef pen of three, and the herd builder judging will happen at 9 and 10am respectively. Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway talks about the two judging aspects Friday morning.
“So if you’ve never checked that out it’s really cool. It’s actually a live evaluation with the animals in the pens, as well as an interview process for the 4-H’ers. So this is a great learning and real world, hands-on experience for them.”
The afternoon also has a lot going on, including the goat and goat kid show in the show ring at 2:30pm, followed by the pet show in Clover Hall at 4pm and the 4-H Fashion Show, also in Clover Hall at 5:30pm. The day rounds out with the beef barbecue meal and a performance by the Town and Country Band at 5:30pm in the north hall. The mechanical bull is free for anyone to participate at 5pm near the grandstands with that evening’s entertainment being the Wright Rodeo Company with fireworks after. The grandstand is a $10 admission charge and three and younger are free.
Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will be broadcasting live from the fairgrounds from 10am-6pm. You can also find results from the fair and a full schedule of events on our website under the Greene County Fair tab on the right hand side of the homepage.
