The Greene County Historical Society is once again inviting the public to their special programs at the Greene County Fair.
The “Historical Chats” will return to the History Building on the Greene County Fairgrounds tomorrow and Saturday. There are four topics that panelists will discuss, including Friday’s chats about evolution of farming at 11am and fairgrounds race track at 1pm. Then on Saturday will be a talk based baseball in Rippey at 11am and country schools at 1pm.
Friday’s talks on farm evolution will be with Roger Custer and Jerry Fields of Jefferson, along with Chuck Derry of Rippey. The final topic on Friday on the fairgrounds race track will be with Jefferson residents including Gary Haupert, Ed Calvert and Frank Kozal.
Saturday’s topic on Rippey baseball will be led by Mary Weaver and Nancy Hanaman, who are former Rippey and later East Greene High School teams, along with former members of the Rippey Demons. There will also be an update on the renovated Walt Anderson Field in Rippey. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite team’s ball caps and will win prizes. The other topic on Saturday on country schools will be led by Weaver, as well as Jefferson residents Virginia Carlson, Mike Piepel and Mike Minnehan.
Everyone is encouraged to attend and provide their own stories and comments, along with looking at the displays of antique farm equipment and visit the one room school house on the fairgrounds as well.
