After a 3-20 Greene County baseball season, first year head coach Kyle Stalder and his son, first year assistant coach Bryce Stalder, have areas of improvement in mind for 2024. One of those is hitting, where the Rams batted just .186 as a team. Senior catcher Brayden Roberts had the top average on the team among regulars with a .315 average. He had the lone home run hit in 2023 and led the team in runs batted in with 15. Roberts also had eight of the Rams’ 18 doubles. Replacing his bat, plus overall improvement at the plate will likely be a goal for next season.
A very young team did get experience on the varsity level and with just three seniors on the team this season, more than 420 at-bats were recorded by those with eligibility next season. Cutting down on strikeouts should help the team BA as the Rams averaged striking out more than eight times per game. They fanned 15 times in the 6-1 loss last Friday in Alleman to Class 3A second ranked North Polk.
