Greene County meets Saydel on the Eagles’ home field in Des Moines tomorrow night with a trip to the State Softball Tournament next week north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Park on the line. The two Heart of Iowa Activities Conference rivals are well versed with each other having split their two conference contests, each winning on the others home diamond. In fact, this is the third straight year the teams will have played each other three times, including the postseason, with the regional contest at Saydel each time.

Both teams have dominant pitchers in seniors Dakota Lake for the Eagles and Emma Hoyle for the Rams. Putting the ball in play is not easy against these two, and the team that has the most success in limiting the number of times it strikes out could have an advantage. Lake leads Class 3A pitchers in strikeouts this season and Hoyle is second. Hoyle is coming off a no-hit performance with 16 strikeouts vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) at Saturday night’s Region 3 semifinal in Jefferson, a 4-0 victory for the Rams. She is both the single season strikeout leader for the Greene County program at 257 and the career leader with 691.

The Class 3A Region 3 final between thirteenth ranked Greene County and number 8 Saydel can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyracio.com Tuesday night from Des Moines on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. with coverage starting at 6:30.
