New Opportunities Dallas County has begun thinking about those in need during the winter months.
Outreach Coordinator Beth Morman says they have kicked off their “Perry Operation Warm Coat Drive,” in partnership with the Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, to ensure all ages in the Perry Community School District are prepared for winter. Morman explains they are now accepting donations of new or slightly used coats. She details the need in the community for warm clothing.
“We have a lot of people call us and let us know that their children do not have snow boots or snow pants, winter coats, hats, gloves. So we’re always encouraging them to check out the clothing closet in? Perry for that. But this year, one of the church members came to us and said he wanted to start this coat drive. So we’ve been working on this and planning it and got it up and running to work this.”
Morman notes they are also accepting applications for those who want to participate in the program, must apply by September 1st and be income eligible to receive any clothing.
