Now that it’s July, there are several free swimming lessons for Jefferson and surrounding youth to take advantage of.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Denny Hammen tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are four sessions of lessons, each sponsored by a different business. The first one is from July 10th-14th from 5:30-6:15pm with Jefferson Family Dentistry as the sponsor. The next three sessions are during the day and take place at the same time. The first one is July 17th-21st with Greene County Medical Center, then its July 24th-28th with Raccoon Valley Mutual Insurance, and from July 31st-August 4th with Home State Bank as the sponsor. The times for the day sessions are 9:30-10:15am for levels 1 and 3, followed by 10:30-11:15am for levels 2 and 4. 

Hammen talks about the importance of offering these free swimming lessons and the appreciation for the support of this with the community partners.

“Those are our main sponsors and have been very loyal sponsors over the years to make sure that could offer these free lessons because as we all know it’s an important skill that kids need to learn, a good safety skill, because they’re always going to be around water throughout their life. And so being able to teach them the fundamentals, I think, is a great service that we can offer our community.”
