Fans have enjoyed watching the Greene County softball team and they’ll have more opportunities to do just that. Led by five seniors, Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams will close the regular season and open the postseason on the home field at the City of Jefferson Diamond on E. Lincolnway. Seniors include Emma Hoyle, Alexa Peters, Olivia Shannon, Emma Stream, and Paige Teeples. They’ll get to play at least twice more at home with a Monday night game to end the regular season vs. Humboldt, then July 6 with Cherokee in the quarterfinals of Class 3A Region 3. A win on July 6 would keep the Rams at home for the semifinals on July 8 vs. either Southeast Valley (Gowrie) or OABCIG (Ida Grove) in the semifinals.
Humboldt plays the Rams on Monday night at the City Diamond to finish off the regular season for both. The Wildcats are 18-10 and they finished in a second place tie with Webster City in the North Central Conference. St. Edmond (Ft. Dodge) won the the NCC title. Greene County finished second in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, is 19-6 and ranked 13th in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Monday’s game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage after 6:30 p.m. and first pitch set for 7 p.m. There is no JV game, only the varsity contest.
