The next Lyceum event in Jefferson is happening soon.

This month’s topic asks the question, “How Does Our City’s Design Shape the Way We Live?” Lyceum organizers say daily lives are shaped by the physical landscape decisions of where people live. Decision makers for city plans, real estate developers and designers designate where and how buildings and other things are built, how and what they look like, and what parts of a city are more important than others.

Attendees will get to hear and interact with two speakers. The first one is the new Jefferson City Administrator Scott Peterson. He served as the city clerk and administrator for Lake View for the past 24 years and before that was the Glidden city administrator and city clerk in Dayton. The other speaker is Nick Sorensen who is the Downtown Real Estate Specialist with the Iowa Downtown Resource Center. He gives technical assistance to cities that have real estate development issues in their downtowns. Prior to his current job, Sorensen spent 13 years as a Jefferson Police Officer and then was the Jefferson Building and Zoning Official, along with code enforcement and special projects coordinator for five years.

Participants will also get a chance to talk about how they see the community changing for the better in the future. Tickets for the event on Monday from 7-9pm at the Pickaway Americana and Meeting House are $10. Click the link below to register.
