Thursday, June 15th

2:29am: Tanisha Rice of Jefferson reported having heard screaming in the 200 block of East State Street. The Officer checked the area and did not find the source of the report.

7:01am: An Officer performed a traffic stop in the 700 block of North Elm Street. As a result of the traffic stop, Mathew Reed of Eagle Grove, Iowa was issued a citation for “Excessive Speed”

7:23am: An Officer performed a traffic stop near the intersection of West Lincoln Way and North Elm Street. As the result of the traffic stop, Cade Mueller of Tripoli, Iowa was issued a citation for “Fail to Obey Stop or Yield Sign”

7:38am: An Officer was requested to assist a city worker with a nuisance skunk at Daubendiek Walking Park. The Officer assisted as requested.

9:46am: Steve Sheer of Jefferson reported a homeless female asking for food in the 300 block of East Monroe Street. The Officer located the female. With the assistance of the Greene County Homeless Coalition, the female was found a place in an Ames, Iowa homeless shelter.

2:04pm: Fonglie Bavelaar of New Providence, Iowa requested an Officer check the welfare of a female who lived in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive. The Officer performed the check and found the female was not in need of assistance. Fonglie was advised of this.

5:12pm: Matthew Gordon of Jefferson reported a semi stopped on North Elm Street obstructing traffic in the 1600 block of North Elm Street. The Officer responded and as the result of the investigation, Bryan Gibson of Scranton was issued citations for “Stopping, Standing, or Parking Where Prohibited” and “Dark Windows / Windshield”

6::07pm: Mike Wyatt of Jefferson requested extra patrol in the 100 block of South Chestnut Street. The Officer provided the increased patrol.

7:33pm: An anonymous female caller reported an approximately 3-year-old girl in the roadway near the intersection of North Chestnut Street and East State Street. The Officer checked the reported area and did not find the child.

6:46pm: An Officer assisted the Greene County Ambulance Service with a call for service in the 200 block of North West Street.

7:01pm: John Sturgeon of Jefferson reported a person going door to door selling home improvement tools. He felt the situation was suspicious and should be checked on. The Officer located the subject in the 500 block of West State Street. The person was part of a business selling door to door. He was advised to register at the Jefferson City Hall prior to selling in town.

7:14pm: Eric Chrystal of Jefferson spoke with an Officer in reference to ongoing thefts of property from his residence.

Friday, June 16th

8:52am: Brian Mobley reported a Suspicious Subject at Washington Park. The officer spoke to the male subject, who left the area after the conversation.

10:56am: Tri County Lumber reported a Credit Card Scam. An order was placed on the phone and paid for by Credit Card. The material was picked up and the card holder called about fraudulent charges to his card and had not made the purchase. The officer is investigating.

11:28am: Chase Hanson spoke with an officer in connection to a Civil Issue. The officer provided him with information to correct the issue.

2:00pm: The Peony Restaurant reported a male had left 101 East Lincoln Way Street without paying for his meal. The officer recognized the subject from the description given by the employees and later spoke to the subject. He admitted to the theft and was told to pay the bill, or he would be charged with Theft 5th Degree.

2:49pm: A caller reported three juveniles consuming alcohol and smoking underage at Washington Park. The officer tracked the kids to the Rec Center and spoke with them. They showed no signs of the alleged conduct suggested by the caller.

3:27pm: An officer was patrolling and witnessed two juvenile females using a vape device. The officer pulled over and spoke to the two, who gave the officer two vape devices. The officer issued citations to Shane Kennedy and Macie Frueh for, “Person Under 21 Using Vape Product.” This is a Civil Penalty, not a criminal charge.

3:49pm: Dispatch received an Abandoned 911 Call from 203 West Madison Street. The officer checked the address and area and did not locate anyone needing assistance.

4:35pm: Dispatch received an Open Line 911 Call from the area of the 200 Block of South High School. The officer did not locate anyone needing assistance in the area.

6:38pm: A Traffic Stop near Elm and State Streets resulted in Stephanie Swanberg of Fort Dodge being cited for, “Improper Use of Registration and Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.”

8:25pm: A Traffic Stop near Oak and Clark Streets resulted in Travis Edwards of Scranton being cited for, “Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.”

9:03pm: callers advised of fireworks being set off in the 400 Block of East State Street. The officer spoke to a group of subjects and advised them to end the fireworks, as they are not permitted in Jefferson.

9:43pm: Dan Cross reported a subject operating a chainsaw at the late hour on Riverside. The officer did not locate anyone in the area.

11:23pm: An officer removed tree branches from the road in the 600 Block of North Olive Street.

Saturday, June 17th

1:57am: An officer assisted Jefferson Fire with a reported fire at 209 East Gallop Road. No active fire was located, but damage was located near garbage cans, which appeared to have been the source of the flames.

8:20am: Ellen Ritter reported a possible No Contact Violation. The officer investigated and determined a violation of the order had not been made.

5:01pm: Beth Villanueva reported an Unwanted Male at 305 East Harrison Street. The subject had just left as the officer arrived. The officer spoke to the subject later and advised him not to return to the residence, or face Trespassing Charge.

7:38pm: Robin Bonner reported a Stray Dog in her garbage at 702 Rushview Drive. The officer placed the dog in the Animal Holding Facility and later issued Royce Gonnelly citations for, “Annual Animal License Required, Tag not Secured to Animal, and Animal At large Prohibited.”

10:14pm: Veronica Ellsbury reported her brother was at a friend’s apartment in Jefferson, and the occupant no longer wanted him there. The officer went to 1000 West Adams and spoke to the renter of the apartment. They advised they wanted the subject to leave. The officer advised the male, who gathered his belongings and left the area.

Sunday, June 18th

1:46am: An officer secured an Open Door at 600 East Lincoln Way Street.

1:49am: A Traffic Stop near Olive and Lincoln Way Streets resulted in Michael Rumley of Jefferson being cited for, “Violation of Graduated License and Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.

4:52am: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical call in the 500 Block of North Wilson Ave.

9:24am: An officer investigated an accident at Adams and Pinet Streets. A 1998 Toyota Corolla, owned and operated by Susan Mills of Jefferson, was eastbound on Adams Street. A 2017 Ford Focus, owned and operated by Jordan Ward of Jefferson, was southbound on North Pinet Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection. The Ward vehicle had a reported $3500.00 in damages, while the Mills vehicle suffered a reported $1000.00 in damages. Ward was cited for, “Fail to Yield to the Right.”

11:32am: A Traffic Stop near 220th and Mulberry Streets resulted in Bryant Margetta of Jefferson being cited for, “Driving While Suspended.”

11:34am: Pam Olerich reported a Stray Dog in the 700 Block of West Lincoln Way Street. The officer did not locate the reported animal.

11:42am: Kyle Cuddy reported Unwanted Contact from a family member. The officer is working to contact them and convey his wishes.

1:29pm: Bill Burkett reported a Missing/Stolen Cell Phone, while parked at 508 North Elm Street. He called later and advised he had located the phone and it was not stolen.

1:56pm: Dispatch advised of an Open 911 call from 703 West State Street. The officer spoke to subjects at the address and was advised it was accidental and all was fine.

6:27pm: James Pena requested an officer at 709 Pinet Place for a Civil Issue.

7:15pm: A caller advised a subject had been assaulted at 709 Pinet Place. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Ashley Spaulding, 26 of Jefferson for, “Assault Causing Injury – Serious.”

9:12pm: An officer assisted Jail Staff with a combative inmate at the jail.

11:22pm: An officer located a Stray Dog in the area of Reed and Wilson. The animal’s owner came out of a residence in the area. The animal was given to the owner, with a warning for, “Animal at Large.”

Monday, June 19th

4:15am: Jeff Niles reported debris in the roadway near Elm and 220th Streets. The officer removed the items from the roadway.

5:16am: The police department was assisted by the sheriff’s office, EMS, Iowa State Patrol, and DCI with a Death Scene Investigation in the 800 Block of East Adams Street.

Tuesday, June 20th

7:29am: The Twiins Shoppe turned in Credit Cards found on the ground near 111 West Lincoln Way Street. The officer is working to return the cards to the owner.

9:24am: Rebecca Chumley reported Unwanted Text Messages to her daughter by a known female. The officer documented the event.

9:57am: Chelsea Moore spoke with an officer concerning a Civil Child Custody Issue.

2:12pm: Cheri Jean Stalder reported her parked vehicle had been struck while parked in the parking at the high school baseball field in the 100 Block of Ram Drive. The 2022 Toyota Camry had $3000.00 in damages. The officer later spoke to a subject about the accident. They advised they did accidentally strike to vehicle and left the area. The 2008 Dodge Avenger was owned by Laura Hoyle and operated by Trevon Keely, both of Churdan. The Hoyle vehicle suffered $1500.00 damages. Keely was cited for, “No Insurance – Accident.”

2:43pm: Casey’s reported a Theft of Alcohol from 508 North Elm Street. The store had video of the event. The officer arrested Janon Butler, 52 of Jefferson for, “Theft 5th Degree – Simple.”

5:27pm: A caller advised of a vehicle driving carelessly near the baseball field in the 100 Block of Ram Drive. The officer located the reported vehicle and spoke to the young driver about the issue.

5:27pm: A caller advised they had caught a Stray Dog near Locust and State Streets. The officer placed the dog in the Animal Holding Facility.

9:30pm: Dispatch advised of a 911 Call from the area of the 400 Block of West Russell Street. The officer spoke to a subject in that area and was advised it was accidental and all was fine.
