The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Community Schools saw an improvement in their students ability to read at a proficient level this last school year.

Superintendent Greg Dufoe says their data was finalized from their “Wildly Important Goal,” of reducing the amount of students pre-kindergarten through 11th grades that are not proficient in reading. Dufoe says they have seen a decrease from 25-percent of students not being proficient in reading to now just 13-percent in the last two years according to the grade level state assessment data. Dufoe tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this was an unbelievable rate of improvement.

We couldn’t be more happy with our student achievement. And we’re seeing improvement gains across all measures, including math and science. We’re just super excited. We can’t wait to get started again. Everybody needs a break, but we feel like we have an improvement system and the right structures and systems in place to continue down this path.”

Dufoe notes that their “Wildly Important Goal,” will look to reduce students that are identified as not proficient in reading the school year of 2023-24 before they switch to a new subject in the following year.
