One Greene County High School recent graduate received an offer to go to college for an extracurricular activity that started just two years ago.

Caleb Most joined Esports in its inaugural year as a junior last year and returned this year as a senior and won the state playoffs this past spring in Smite. However, before he graduated high school this past May, Most tells Raccoon Valley Radio he was offered a scholarship to play Esports at Northwestern College. Before he was offered a scholarship, Most says he had to go through a tryout playing the game Overwatch II, which he had never played before.

“During the practice, I just kind of listened to everyone else, did what they told me to do, and it worked out fine. And then afterwards was when we set up a call (with Northwestern College) and first it was mentioned that they didn’t have high expectations when I had no history (with Overwatch II) but I did great.”

Kyle Kinne is one of the high school Esports coaches and is really happy for Most.

“I’m happy for him. Caleb, everytime I see him he’s always smiling, he’s happy. He was able to go up there, on campus, and get a tour, and get to see the arena, (and) we took a lot of pictures. Just another thing, besides sports, besides vocal and band, and besides art that we can give kids an opportunity to go to the next level (and get into college).”

Most says people have noticed he’s opened up more socially because of Esports.

“It feels good for people to recognize how I’ve changed. I guess it gives me a little more confidence in myself to know that I’ve become more social and it is a good thing.”

Most encourages any student that has a passion for something to find an opportunity that allows that to flourish and try something new.
