A reminder that today the Greene County Youth Athletic Association is hosting its final games of the year for baseball and softball at the Little League Fields in Jefferson.

The Closing Ceremonies includes one-hour games from 11am-2pm on all three fields with t-ball through sixth grade leagues. Then there is a Home Run Derby fundraiser starting at 2pm for individuals from 8 to 90 years old. There are age divisions from 8-15 and 16 and over, with the event to take place on the west ball field. The pitches will be delivered via a pitching machine and each participant is given five outs. The entry fee is $5. 

Additionally, teams will be introduced at 10am, with the singing of the National Anthem and presentation of colors at 10:30am. The Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will grill hamburgers and hotdogs and serve chips for a free will donation. Iowa author Tim Grover of “Barnstorming Babe” will be on hand starting at 10:45am selling copies of his book and autographs, with a percentage of the book sales going back to GCYAA. All proceeds will be used for fencing improvements, field resurfacing, a pitching machine, concession and the quad renovations and batting cages.
