The Greene County Youth Athletic Association invites everyone to a special event for their summer sports.
The Closing Ceremonies for the youth baseball and softball leagues is taking place from 9am-3pm Saturday at the Little League Field in Jefferson. The event begins at 9am with Iowa author Tim Grover at the Trinity Lutheran Church to do an Author Talk with the Jefferson Public Library about his book, ‘Barnstorming Babe” and will sell and autograph copies of his book, with a percentage to go back to GCYAA.
The Jefferson Fire Truck will be prepping the field at 9:30am, followed by the introduction of teams at 10. The Jefferson Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will present the colors and the singing of the National Anthem will be at 10:30am. Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation will throw out the first pitch right before the games begin at 11am. Also at 11am is when a free will donation meal will be served from Jefferson Fareway and the Greene County Cattlemen Association. Home State Bank will also hand out free bottles of water.
All three fields will have games from the t-ball league up through sixth grade from 11am-2pm. Then around 2pm will be a Home Run Derby on the west field for 8-90 year olds with a $5 entry fee. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will be on hand playing music and making local announcements. All proceeds will be used for fencing improvements, field resurfacing, a pitching machine, concession and the quad renovations and batting cages.
