Baseball Hall of Famer Ernie Banks is famous for the phrase “Let’s Play Two!” and that’s just what Greene County and Roland-Story did on Thursday in Story City. The Rams won the first game 7-6 to snap a losing streak that had reached 11 games, and the Norsemen won 14-2 in five innings by the 10-run rule in game two. Coach Kyle Stalder’s team is 2-13 overall and 1-9 in conference play and the Norsemen are 9-11.

Sophomore Noah Hinote pitched all seven innings of game one and picked up the victory on the mound. The Rams overcame an early 5-0 deficit by scoring three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, and three in the fifth. Hinote allowed four earned runs on eight hits, two walks, one batter hit with a pitch, and he recorded four strikeouts. The Rams collected six hits with Brayden Roberts getting a single, double, and two runs batted in. Gavyn Winters had a double and one RBI with singles by Adam Bills, Lane Fields, and Hinote. Marcus Ball, Fields, and Bills each drove in a run. Ben Greenfield took the pitching loss despite striking the Rams out 11 times.

Game two saw the Rams trail 13-2 after three innings. Sophomore Camden Jacobs took the pitching loss. The Rams had four hits, all singles, with two from Winters, and one each by Bills and Hinote. There were no runs batted in for Greene County.

Up next is a June 19 home date with Heart of Iowa Activities Conference leader West Marshall (State Center) in Jefferson at Allensworth Field. That game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on raccoonvalleyradio.com with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
