The AC/GC Chargers baseball team was in action last night, and split their varsity doubleheader against the Earlham Cardinals. The Chargers took game one, in a close 13-11 finish. They scored 1 run in the first inning, then allowed 3 and scored 2 in the second to tie things up. AC/GC then allowed another run for Earlham before picking up 2 of their own, but then allowed the Cardinals another run in the fourth and things were tied up at 5 runs each. The Chargers turned on the gas in the fifth and tallied 6 runs before allowing 6 in the sixth inning and picking up 2 for the final score of 13-11.
The team then started the second game, allowing 5 runs in the first and 2 in the second, before collecting their sole run of the night in the third, and allowing another two runs. The Chargers held the Cardinals off in the fourth, before allowing 2 runs n the fifth, and the game ended in an 11-1 loss for AC/GC. Junior Lance Bunde led the team in hits and strikeouts, with 1 hit, a .500 batting average, 1 run and a double along with a 9 ERA, 2 1/3 innings pitched and 3 strikeouts. Freshman Chase Slaybaugh led in earned run average and appearances with a 6 ERA, 2 1/3 innings pitched and 1 strikeout. There were no RBI’s
