The Annual Spring Lake Kids’ Fishing Derby was held this past Sunday and it was deemed another success.

Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann says there were 86 participants that registered and each child from four to 15 years old received a free fishing pole. He points out there were 12 total grand prizes, with four in each age group, including a catfish package that had a bucket with an aerator lid, a tackle box with tackle, a fish basket and catfish bait; a camping package with a tent, sleeping bag, a camping pillow and chair; a hiking package with a backpack with water bladder, first aid kit, and insect repellent; and a conservation package with a Pheasants Forever t-shirt, one free night of camping at any county park and fishing tackle.

Each grand prize package also contained A&W gift cards. Scheuermann adds along with a free fishing pole, each child also received a waterproof pouch and a free scoop of ice cream from Ice Cube Concessions. There were close to 45 sponsors and donors that supported this year’s fishing derby.
