The Jefferson Public Library invites everyone out to their next Author Talk Series later this week.
Library Director Jane Millard tells Raccoon Valley Radio Des Moines area author Tim Grover will be talking about his newly published book, “Barnstorming Babe” on Saturday at 9am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Millard says the book chronicles two New York Yankee greats, Babe Ruth and Bob Musal, who did an 18 month tour in 1922 to play various baseball games across the Midwest, both big and small towns, including a town in northern Dallas County.
“They gave the locals a game to watch that they may not have otherwise had an opportunity to ever see, a Major League Baseball player. The adventure kicked off with a spitball in Perry, Iowa on Friday the 13th, 1922.”
Millard gives her personal comments about the book.
“The book is really good, I’ve read it. I may not be the greatest baseball fan but I really enjoyed this book and I can’t believe that Babe Ruth came that close to Jefferson, to Greene County.”
Saturday’s Author Talk with Tim Grover is free and open to the public. Millard points out that Grover will also donate a percentage of the book sales that day to the Greene County Youth Athletic Association, which Grover will also be in attendance at the Little League Field at 10am to kick off GCYAA’s annual fundraiser and closing ceremonies. Millard adds there is also a display on baseball memorabilia in the adult department at the library from local baseball fan John Rowland.
