Guthrie County Recorder Tristen Richard recently announced that a scam letter has been circulating in Iowa.

According to Richard, the initial report of the scam letter occurred in Webster County. She says the letter claims to be from “County Deed Records,” and gives false information about the expiration date of the recipient’s home warranty. It also contains a “renewal fee voucher” that resembles a check, and asks for immediate action from the homeowner, lest they be left vulnerable to repair costs.

Richard mentions that the letter has been confirmed as illegitimate by the Iowa County Recorders Association in conjunction with Iowa Land Records. If Guthrie County residents, and other residents throughout the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area receive a letter from “County Deeds Records,” they are urged to not pay anything, not call any number on the letter, not go to any website listed on the letter, and not return any mail requests. A copy of the letter can be found in this story online for reference.
