An annual event where Jefferson and surrounding residents can get rid of sensitive documents safely is coming up this week.

Home State Bank will continue to offer its free Shred Day on Thursday in the main parking lot from 4-5:30pm. Home State Bank Marketing and Communication Director Jackie Cunningham tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are several acceptable items that can be shredded, including copy paper, colored paper, magazines, sticky notes, staples and paperclips, among other things. Along with items to be shredded, Cunningham says they will also collect non-perishable food items to be given to the local food pantry, the Greene County Action Resource Center. 

She points out last year they shredded 5,100 pounds of items. Cunningham notes they also pledged $0.25 per pound of shredded materials to donate to the local food pantry, Greene County Action Resource Center, which they also gave $1,275. She is excited to continue to help the food pantry because it is a great community resource and the individuals and families that they serve.

Cunningham says there is no limit on the amount of items someone wants to shred. She asks people to put their items in bags or boxes of manageable sizes. Anyone wanting to be a part of Shred Day should enter the parking lot from Lincoln Way and exit through the west side. See the list of acceptable items below.
