We’re approaching graduation season, a time to celebrate accomplishments but sometimes those celebrations can get out of hand or involve activities that could get people into serious trouble.
Perry Police Department School Resource Officer Pat Jans says drinking alcohol underage is not something to take lightly.
“If we find an underage person drinking or in possession of alcohol, they’re going to be subject to being taken into custody and processed, getting all their information, parents will be contacted and a referral will be made to juvenile court” says Jans. “With that referral, that will set up an intake meeting with juvenile court officials out of Adel and the consequences can range through a pretty wide spectrum depending on what the intake meeting with juvenile court officials comes to.”
And the consequences range greatly from fines to community to service, anti drinking classes and consequences at school if they are still a student.
The Perry Crime Stoppers are offering a reward for anyone who provides information leading them to a party where underage drinking is occurring or an adult providing alcohol to individuals under 21. Anonymous tips can be left by calling 465-5661.
