Many Iowa Senators and Representatives are just like the other residents of the state, in the fact that they can at times come across something fascinating to them in their work.
House Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that the writing of policies in bills is interesting to him, adding it’s a big part of why he’s in the position he is.. He explains that one bill that was of interest to him was his own Consumer Data Privacy Bill that has been signed into law, saying that it lays the groundwork for what could be called a bill of rights for consumers online, and wade through the new frontier of the digital age.
Sorensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio that another bill that piqued his interest was the Raw Milk Bill.
“It is now legal to sell raw milk, and, not quite as expansive as you may think. You can only sell it from your farm, and it has to be properly labeled, warning people of what could come with raw milk, which is a bacterial infection.”
Sorensen mentions that since the sale of raw milk would be limited to direct to consumer sales, it wouldn’t be possible to purchase any at stores or in restaurants. He adds that looking back on the session, he feels that for the most part the legislators were able to complete what they were trying to get done.
