The last event of the three day Coed State Track & Field Meet proved eventful for Greene County. The girls 4x 400 meter relay placed sixth in Class 2A in a season best time of 4:04.17. at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. It was more than three seconds faster than Friday night when the quartet of seniors Natalie Heupel, Katrina Heupel, and Olivia Shannon, plus freshman Kaycee Pittman, earned their way into the final with a preliminary time of  4:07.55 to qualify with the seventh fastest time among the eight qualifiers. The finish earned the Rams three team points to go with the two seventh place finishes, one from Thursday when Natalie Heupel placed in the 400 meter dash, and one on Friday from the 4 x 200 meter relay with Kamryn Sanders, Shannon, and the Heupel twins. Those two finishes were worth two points each, so the Rams totaled three top seven finishes and seven team points. It also had been many years since the Rams had a 4 x 400 reached the State finals for girls.

Also, Pittman ran the 800 meters on Saturday morning and turned in a personal best time of 2:26.62, shaving nearly 2-1/2 seconds off the 2:29.08 she ran on May 11 in Ida Grove at the State qualifying meet. She finished 23rd in the 24 person field at State, but the drop in time could prove more valuable than the placing for the ninth grader. Pittman only began running the event in the middle of the season and she saw her time drop by more than 12 seconds from when she first competed in the open 800.

Greene County qualified seven events for girls and three for boys. Senior Jesse Miller scored a point on the boys’ side when he placed eighth in the 2A shot put on Thursday.
