A couple were recently arrested, following a month-long investigation of an alleged burglary and theft incident in Greene County.

According to court documents, an investigation began on April 15th with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, as the landowner in the 1100 block of 237th Street reported two stolen vehicles, including a 1964 Mercedes-Benz and a 1962 International Scout. During the investigation, the landowner had an inquiry by 56-year-old Julie Wells of Glidden about what was going to happen with the property. The landowner directed Wells to the caretaker of the property and she asked if she could help clean it up, and the caretaker denied her offer.

Court documents show the landowner received a message from a friend on April 13th saying they saw a tow truck removing two vehicles from the property. The investigating deputy found the vehicles were sold to a salvage company for $500 and one of the vehicles was demolished. The salvage company said they were contacted by 60-year-old Larry Simms of Carroll who claimed he had authority to sell the vehicles.

The Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence in Carroll where Wells and Simms were living together. Simms claimed Wells was given permission to be on the property and that the owner was going to give her the property. Wells claimed the landowner told her she could do whatever she wanted to the property, except sell it, and contact the caretaker before any work was done.

On May 9th, the deputy spoke with both the landowner and caretaker and both denied Simms and Wells’ claims.

Simms and Wells were both charged with Class D Felonies for second degree theft and third degree burglary. They were arrested this past Thursday and booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
