With it being spring, and with summer fast approaching, severe weather can at times seem to appear out of nowhere.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says that there’s always storms in the spring, but that some come with the possibility of high winds, heavy rains, and when they become severe enough, even tornados and hail. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that even if a storm doesn’t become severe, there’s still a possibility of danger.

“If it rains heavy, it leaves a lot of water on the surface of the highways. You have to slow down, otherwise you can hydroplane. The wheels will actually lift up off the pavement and you’ll lose control of the vehicle. So again, you need to slow down.”

Arganbright mentions that when severe weather is present, residents should take heed when cautioned to take safety precautions. He notes that while some people like to go out and watch the weather, it is always safer to get somewhere safe when a notification comes through, whether that be an interior first floor room or the basement.
