A new business recently opened in Jefferson.
Good Stuff by Bill and Pauline is owned by Bill and Pauline Allen and they sell older furniture, collectables, decor, floral, glassware, and old books. Bill tells Raccoon Valley Radio they began the business in four different locations, including Carroll, Rockwell City, Coon Rapids, and Des Moines. However, they wanted to consolidate everything to one location and the property they are now at in Jefferson became available and they couldn’t pass it up.
Bill talks about another service he provides.
“I make lamps. I’ll take an old meat grinder and a colander and make a lamp out of it (along with), an old whiskey bottle, or an old Stanley thermos, fire extinguishers, I do those. So if I can find something to make a lamp out of it, I’ll make a lamp out of it.”
Bill says their mission is to find items at a reasonable price so they can sell it at a reasonable price. He points out the furthest they have gone to get an item is Florida. Bill describes the most enjoyable part about owning his business.
“When you find an item, and you get it cleaned up, and you see the light go on in somebody’s head, ‘They love this item.’ And when I see somebody find something that they really enjoy that I found, it’s more the pleasure of that than the profit I make off of the item>”
Good Stuff by Bill and Pauline is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am-5pm at 702 East Lincoln Way.
