The Dallas County Conservation Board has slots available for their Summer Youth Volunteer Program, but the deadline to apply is approaching fast.
Outreach Coordinator Sarah Gilchrist says that this program will be from 8am until noon only on Thursdays starting June 8th at the Voas Nature Area in Miniburn for ages 10 to 14. Gilchrist explains that these kids will be able to get their hands dirty in some service projects in the habitat.
“What’s really cool, though, is they think they’re having fun, but really they’re doing a lot of work, and to restore some of our Savanna Prairie areas. And what’s fun to see is the kids who come back year after year to tackle it again and make more progress in removing invasive species and helping that area. And they really find it great. It’s very satisfying. And that’s why they come, even though it’s hot in June and July and they’re doing some tough, dirty work.”
The deadline to sign up for this free youth summer program will be on May 25th by contacting the conservation’s office. It will be on a first come, first serve basis with space limited.
